Part One: Begin With the Business — Chapter 2: Find the Costly Friction

Musou: the broad vision met a specific friction

Musou's first product vision was intentionally broad: community, engagement, and an individual journey. The early application proved that members could sign in, assess themselves, explore movement content, track progress, participate in a community, and receive coaching plans.

Use then exposed a more precise problem. The social experience had become too complicated, and members did not have an obvious way to begin a routine. The important friction was not “we need more community features.” It was decision overload at the point where a member needed a clear next action.

The response was subtraction. The broad social network became a simpler coach-led feed. The movement experience became a three-step flow: choose a category, answer a few questions about the current situation, and receive a filtered playlist. Musou reduced decisions for members while increasing useful control for coaches.

A second friction sat inside delivery. Sean's one-to-one coaching workflow had been tracked in Google Sheets. Moving sessions, movements, nutrition, media, and communication into the platform reduced the administrative work surrounding each client. The important result was not tidier administration by itself. More effective delivery and lower overhead created capacity for Sean to take on more paying coaching clients.

That correction is the method in miniature. Start with the behavior that is failing, not with attachment to the feature list.
