Chapter 7: The Smallest Useful Experiment

A proof of concept can show that something is possible to build. Before making a larger business commitment, you also need to learn how it performs in the work and whether people can use it under the conditions you actually have.

Design the experiment around the uncertainty blocking that decision. You may need a narrow trial of a changed process. You may first need to observe today's workflow and establish a baseline. The useful size is the smallest honest test that can tell you enough to decide what follows.
