Part Three: Choose the Bet — Chapter 5: Score Opportunities Without Pretending the Score Is Truth
Four portfolio positions
The current Compass scoring model produces four practical positions:
- Run—this week. Important, plausible, adoptable, fast to learn from, and contained.
- Run—two weeks. Promising, with preparation required before a valid experiment can begin.
- Invest after evidence. Meaningful but too uncertain or consequential for an immediate commitment; design evidence first.
- Not yet. Conditions are not sufficient. Record what must become true before reconsidering.
Do not let the labels create false precision. Their job is to force a decision about attention: now, after preparation, after more evidence, or not yet.
