A strategy is a pattern of choices

People learn your strategy by watching what you fund, refuse, measure, and stop. Saying AI is important gives them little help with any of those decisions. A useful pattern of choices is more practical:

• We begin with business friction we can describe and investigate.
• We compare alternatives, then work one opportunity at a time until our decision process is reliable.
• We involve an owner and users before selecting a vendor.
• We learn through small experiments before making large commitments.
• We decide whether to act separately from whether to buy, assemble, or build.
• We design for adoption from the beginning.
• We stop when the evidence doesn't support further investment.
• We review the portfolio in terms of business outcomes.

That gives people enough direction to begin. They can explain why an opportunity deserves attention before asking for a technology budget.
